Bundeswehr acquires new logistics platform for heavy haulage

DOLL Fahrzeugbau GmbH delivers earlier than agreed / Example of rapid procurement / “Semi-trailers form the backbone of military heavy haulage”

Oppenau, 5 October 2023. DOLL Fahrzeugbau GmbH has delivered 31 new semi-trailers to the Bundeswehr for transporting heavy tracked vehicles. Today, Head of Equipment Department at the Bundesministerium der Verteidigung (BMVg), Vice-Admiral Carsten Stawitzki took delivery of the last vehicle from the first firm order. The handover, which was also attended by other high-ranking representatives of the Bundeswehr, took place at the DOLL company premises in Oppenau. In his address, Vice-Admiral Stawitzki highlighted the fast and uncomplicated delivery via the framework agreement concluded with DOLL on 1 June 2022. In June 2022, the medium-sized company had concluded a framework agreement with the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) for a total of 249 militarised semi-trailers with a payload of over 70 tons (SaAnh 70t mil). This comprises the firm order for an initial consignment and offers the option of triggering further deliveries. A second consignment has already been ordered from this contract, so that the last vehicle from the first consignment and the first vehicle from the second could be handed over during this event. This means that DOLL has completed the first firm order three months earlier than agreed – the second can now start as early as 2023 instead of 2024.

“A partner, such as DOLL Fahrzeugbau GmbH, who not only delivers high quality and on time, but even beats delivery targets, significantly advances our procurement”, emphasised Major General Thorsten Puschmann, the Military Vice President of the BAAINBw. DOLL had already started production shortly after signing the contract. In December 2022, the company was able to deliver the first semi-trailers to the Bundeswehr material depot in Karlsruhe. DOLL Managing Director Markus Ehl: “With the help of our partner network, which we have built up over years in Germany and Europe, our company can ramp up its production capacities very quickly. This enables us to implement large orders like this in the shortest possible time. Our expertise in ‘simultaneous engineering’ allows us to produce very quickly at the same time. In addition, we were prepared to start upfront and take a certain risk.”

The trailer type manufactured by DOLL is designed for transporting heavy tracked and wheeled vehicles. “In future, the new semi-trailers, together with the new tractor units already being procured, will form the backbone of military heavy haulage,” the project manager responsible at the BAAINBw had emphasised at the signing of the contract. The SaAnh 70t militarised semi-trailers are used by the Bundeswehr for transporting and recovering in particular the Leopard 2 A6M/A7V main battle tank and its variants as well as tracked and wheeled vehicles.

DOLL is the leading supplier of transport vehicles for heavy-duty products used by NATO armed forces – i.e. tracked vehicles and heavy combat vehicles in the 70 ton plus class. The company from the Black Forest operates internationally. DOLL equips armed forces in Great Britain, the Netherlands, Canada and the Baltic States, among others. Markus Ehl: “We are constantly developing our products in line with the requirements of modern armed forces. As a result, our expertise is continuously growing and our customers in turn benefit from this.”
